Baba’s non-violence (hathyoga) helpless before government violence (lathyoga)

The way Baba Ramdev and his supporters were rounded up on Saturday night by Delhi Police, has become talk of the town. This episode has grabbed the electronic and print media. General public has reacted in two ways on the happenings of Saturday. There is a section, which says that Baba deserved the treatment he met. Baba had crossed all the limits. He had earned the ire of the government by announcing to continue his movement even after reaching an agreement with the government. Some say that Baba has sought permission for a yoga camp from Delhi Police and he had never mentioned about fast and agitation and had mentioned the number of supporters as 3,000 and also assured the gathering at Ram Lila Maidan will not cross this figure. Still, not only fast and non-violent agitation were organized, but his disciples in thousands gathered at Ram Lila Maidan. As such, the administration had the right to take necessary action. As far as the reaction of Manmohan government and Congress Party is concerned, the remarks by the Party General Secretary, Digvijay Singh were sufficient to gauge their mood. Targeting Baba Ramdev from the very beginning, Digvijay Singh has called him a thug (a swindler) and has demanded an enquiry into his activities. Justifying government action, he said that Baba met the same fate as that of a swindler. Digvijay said that after coming to Delhi, Baba Ramdev took shelter at Kushal Bagh Ashram of Swami Shakar Dev, but later, he abandoned him. Then, he duped the Yoga teacher, Baba Karamvir too. Digviajay said that Swami Shankar Dev is missing since July 2007 and no information on his whereabout is available. He further said that Baba Ramdev has duped his followers and the public by claiming to treat diseases like cancer without any authority. Perhaps, he wanted to cheat the government like he cheated public. These are the views and arguments of those, who justify the action taken by the Police on Saturday night.

Then, there is a majority of the people, which considers this to be the gravest mistake of the government, for which it should not be pardoned. I do not hesitate to say that government has failed to handle this Baba episode properly. The first mistake was that government should have not permitted Baba to start his fast. Under prevailing in Delhi laws, Ram Lila Maidan is prohibited for use for political activities. Bharat Swabhiman Manch and Patanjali Yoga Committee had asked for permission for a Yoga Camp and sit-in (dharna). Government could have very well said that we can permit yoga camp, but we will not permit sit-in at Ram Lila Maidan. The application for permission mentioned the number of supporters to be three thousand, but the intelligence agencies had clearly told the government that much more than three thousand people would gather at the Maidan. Second mistake, rather blunder, was that four ministers of government of India including number two in the cabinet, Pranab Mukherjee went to the airport to receive Baba Ramdev on his arrival in Delhi. Why? Why Baba was allowed to step out of the airport? It is learnt that a special BSF aircraft was ready to take him back to Haridwar. Driving away of Baba supporters from Ram Lila Maidan at dead of night on Saturday at 01.00 AM, who were sleeping in the Maidan and which included women, children and elderly persons was the third biggest stupidity of the government. Even the Supreme Court of India was startled by the savagery shown by the Delhi Police, which, taking cognizance of the matter, issued notices to the Central government and Delhi administration and asked them to reply within two weeks’ time. The Police brutality on Saturday night at Ram Lila Maidan was such frightening that mere mention of it makes one shiver. More than a hundred persons were injured in this brutal show of power by the Police, condition of many of whom is still said to be critical. The Police used all types of fair and foul means to stop Baba’s agitation. Agitators say that the Police not only used violence to drive away people from the Pandal, but it set fire to the stage. The teargas shells fired by the Police caused fire to the stage. The raging fire led to confusion, but thank God, it did not convert into second Dabwali. Hundreds of persons could have lost their lives. Dozens of children, women and elderly persons could have been crushed to death in the stampede caused by the lathi charge by the Police on these sleeping people. The experience narrated by the victims could make anybody angry. The agitators say that they had read about Jalianwala Bagh massacre in books, but they had first hand experience of that fateful incident on Saturday night. There are number of women among the agitators, victims of Police lathicharge, with whom the Police crossed all the limits of indecency and cruelty. The supporters of Baba Ramdev fled out of the Maidan to escape Police brutality, but after coming out they felt that they don’t even have proper clothes to wear nor money to reach their homes. Whatever they had, was left in the Ram Lila Maidan in the confusion. But where to go in such a state? Some headed for ITO or Connaught Place, while some left for Railway Station. A few of the women walked in the dead of night under the Ranjit Singh flyover to reach Arya Anathalaya, Barakhambha Road to take shelter. Shri Viresh Pratap Chowdhary runs this orphanage and Baba is a regular visitor here. A group of hundreds of disillusioned Baba supporters headed for Bangala Sahib and Rakabganj Gurudwaras. They didn’t have enough money, so they left on foot for Gurrudwaras to take shelter there. Seeing the plight of these devotees, victim of Police atrocities, Sewadars in the Gurudwaras, not only arranged for their stay immediately, but invited these agitators, who had been on fasting for 24 hours for lungar. There were number of devotees who expressed gratitude for shelter, but refused to take food saying that they will only break their fast only on Babaji’s directions. There were others, who took food after repeated requests by the Sewadars. According to Menakshi Shukla from Mahoba (UP) in Bangala Sahib Gurudwara, the way the Police drove them away from Ram Lila Maidan, made them feel that they were being uprooted from their homes. Now, I do not have clothes to wear and money to return to my home.

It is also startling to know that a number of persons are still missing. According to an eye witness, Police brought some blue line buses and many persons were taken by these buses out of Ram Lila Maidan. Family members of such persons are wandering from hospitals to dharmshalas and to places nearby the agitation site in search of their relatives. Weeping Shailendra Kumar, who with a batch of about 100 perosns came from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand to participate in Baba Ramdev’s agitation told that three women from his batch are missing since night. 53-year Kamla Bhagt, 50-year Renuka and Susheela Manjhi are missing. What is unfortunate that none of the Central Ministers has visited the victims of the Police atrocities. I think that the government has lost the winning game. The Police action has put the government in the dock not only in India, but before the world also. Even people in US are condemning the Police atrocities of Ram Lila Maidan. Baba has become hero overnight. I fail to understand, what difference could it make if Baba had breached the promise and announced to continue the agitation? What was the urgency that the government resorted to lathi charge on sleeping elderly persons, children and women at one in the night? The important question is, what effect will this episode have on people? Will the people of India not say that this government is oppressive, corrupt and is patronizing the corrupt? This reminds me of Jarnail Singh Bhindarawale. The government, at first promoted him and then did the operation Blue Star. History is repeating itself. Whatever remains, leaders like Digvijay Singh are making for it. He, on one hand, is causing the followers of Baba Ramdev to unite and on the other hand, continuously instigating Hindus.

For Digvijay Singh, Osama is Osamaji, Baba is a thug (cheater). The government has also been put in a difficult situation. The already besieged government has itself invited troubles. Let us see how it deals with the Anna Hazare agitation, which has been announced to start from June 08.

प्रधानमंत्री का मंत्रियों पर नकेल कसने की कसरत का स्वागत है

काले धन और भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ बढ़ते चौतरफा दबावों से घिरी मनमोहन सिंह सरकार चिंतित लग रही है। खासकर पीएम डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह। वह अपनी सरकार की गिरती छवि को थामने के लिए अब कदम उठाने की बात कर रहे हैं। इनमें से एक है एक बार फिर अपने मंत्रियों को अपनी सम्पत्ति का खुलासा करने का निर्देश देना। प्रधानमंत्री का यह कदम उच्च स्तर पर शासन में पारदर्शिता लाने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण कदम है। मनमोहन सिंह ने अपने मंत्रियों के लिए आचार संहिता जारी की है। इसके तहत हर मंत्री को अपनी और अपने परिजनों की सम्पत्ति के ब्यौरे की घोषणा करनी होगी। इतना ही नहीं, मंत्रियों को अपने हितों की भी जानकारी देनी होगी। मसलन, यदि किसी मंत्री का परिजन विदेशी कम्पनी में कार्यरत है तो इसका पूरा ब्यौरा उन्हें देना होगा तथा सरकार से इसकी पूर्व अनुमति लेनी होगी। राज्यों को भी आचार संहिता लागू करनी होगी। उन्हें 31 अगस्त तक मंत्रियों को अपनी सम्पत्ति का ब्यौरा देने को कहा गया है।
प्रधानमंत्री ने सभी मंत्रियों को चिट्ठी लिखकर अपनी सम्पत्ति और सालाना कमाई ही नहीं बल्कि अपने पति या पत्नी के साथ उन पर आश्रित परिजनों के नाम की सम्पत्ति को भी सार्वजनिक करने के लिए कहा गया है। इतना ही नहीं, मंत्रियों को इस बार विशेष रूप से कारपोरेट जगत से अपने कारोबारी रिश्तों और संबंधों का भी खुलासा करने के निर्देश दिए गए है। प्रधानमंत्री की इस चिट्ठी में मंत्रियों को यह निर्देश दिए गए हैं कि यदि उनके परिवार का कोई सदस्य अपनी कोई फर्म शुरू करता है या फिर किसी कारोबारी फर्म के बोर्ड का सदस्य बनता है तो इस जानकारी का भी उन्हें खुलासा करना होगा। आचार संहिता के तहत सभी मंत्रियों को सम्पत्ति, देनदारियों, व्यापारिक हितों और अन्य किसी आश्रितों के किसी विदेशी सरकार या संगठन के तहत रोजगार संबंधी जानकारी भी देनी होगी। विवरण में समस्त अचल सम्पत्ति, नकदी, आभूषण, शेयर और डिबेंचर का ब्यौरा शामिल है।
कारण कुछ भी रहा हो, चाहे वह बाबा रामदेव के आंदोलन का दबाव रहा हो या फिर अन्ना हजारे का प्रेशर्स, प्रधानमंत्री के इस कदम का हम स्वागत करते हैं। मनमोहन सरकार में कई करोड़पति मंत्री पहले से ही मौजूद हैं। नेशनल इलेक्शन वॉच की एक रिपोर्ट जो मंत्रियों द्वारा 2009 में दाखिल चुनाव हलफनामे पर आधारित है, का कहना है कि श्री प्रफुल्ल पटेल पहले से ही 89.9 करोड़ सम्पत्ति के मालिक हैं। कपिल सिब्बल 31.97 करोड़, विसेंट पाला 25.16 करोड़, वीरभद्र सिंह 22.52 करोड़। यूपीए सरकार में कुल 47 मंत्री करोड़पति हैं। 2जी स्पेक्ट्रम घोटाले के खलनायक पूर्व संचार मंत्री ए. राजा के मामले में पर्दे के पीछे कुछ औद्योगिक घरानों से उनकी साठगांठ, इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग की टीमें खरीदने के लिए शरद पवार की सांसद बेटी सुप्रिया सुले और पूर्व विदेश मंत्री शशि थरूर की पत्नी सुनन्दा पुष्कर की वजह से सरकार की हुई फजीहत शायद प्रधानमंत्री के नए निर्देश का कारण हो सकती है। जहां हम पीएम के इस कदम का स्वागत करते हैं वहीं यह भी कहना चाहते हैं कि नौकरशाहों पर भी नकेल कसनी चाहिए। मंत्रियों से कहीं ज्यादा इन नौकरशाहों ने लूट-खसोट मचा रखी है।

अन्ना की हुंकार, एंटनी की चेतावनी

बुधवार का दिन सियासत से भरा हुआ दिन रहा। इधर तो राजघाट में अन्ना हजारे हुंकार भर रहे थे तो उधर नई दिल्ली के प्रेस क्लब में रक्षा मंत्री एके एंटनी ने यह कहकर कि ये पारदर्शिता की क्रांति है जो अब रुक नहीं पाएगी, सबको चौंका दिया। यह बाबा रामदेव और अन्ना हजारे के आंदोलनों का ही असर है कि मनमोहन सरकार के इतने वरिष्ठ मंत्री, 10 जनपथ के करीबी एंटनी यह कह रहे हैं। एंटनी ने जो कहा, निश्चित रूप से वह बिना ऊपर सलाह किए नही कहा होगा। फिर सरकार का एक मंत्री ऐसी चेतावनी किसको दे रहा है? क्या यह अपनी ही सरकार को तो नहीं चेता रहा? या फिर अन्ना के आंदोलन और मांगों की हवा निकालने के लिए यह सब हो रहा है? अन्ना डर गए हैं। अन्ना का अनशन हर लिहाज से हिट रहा। गांधीवादी अन्ना हजारे ने रामलीला मैदान में बाबा रामदेव के समर्थकों पर हुई लाठीचार्ज के विरोध में बुधवार को राजघाट पर अपने एकदिवसीय अनशन के समापन पर जनता का आह्वान किया कि वे आगे की लड़ाई के लिए अपने को मजबूत करें। उन्होंने कहा कि संसद के मानसून सत्र में लोकपाल विधेयक पारित नहीं होने की स्थिति में 16 अगस्त से जन्तर-मन्तर पर पहले से भी बड़ा आंदोलन छेड़ा जाएगा। अनशन के समापन पर अन्ना ने विशेष रूप से गृहमंत्री पी. चिदम्बरम के उस बयान की कड़ी आलोचना की जिसमें कहा गया है कि मीडिया का एक वर्ग भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ आंदोलन की प्रतिस्पर्धा लोकलुभावन कवरेज कर रहा है जिससे संसदीय लोकतंत्र का अवमूल्यन हो रहा है। हम चिदम्बरम साहब को यह बताना चाहते हैं कि मीडिया अपनी भूमिका निभा रहा है। मीडिया जनता की आवाज और नब्ज है। आज भारत की जनता भ्रष्टाचार और महंगाई से परेशान, हैरान है। उसे समझ नहीं आ रहा कि वह अपना रोष प्रकट कैसे करे? चुनाव दूर हैं और सत्तारूढ़ पार्टी संसद के अन्दर आंकड़ों के जोड़तोड़ कर सभी मुद्दों पर पानी फेर रही है। जब जनता की पुकार सांसद नहीं सुनेंगे तो जनता सड़कों पर उतरेगी और इसीलिए चाहे बाबा रामदेव का अनशन हो या फिर अन्ना हजारे का, उन्हें जबरदस्त जनसमर्थन मिल रहा है और चिदम्बरम साहब आपके तो वरिष्ठ मंत्री एंटनी खुद यह कह रहे हैं कि अब यह क्रांति नहीं रुकेगी? मीडिया को दोष देना छोड़िए, अपने अन्दर झांकिए और देखिए कि जनता में मची त्राहि को कम कैसे किया जाए।
अन्ना हजारे एक जिम्मेदार गांधीवादी हैं और उनकी बातों को गम्भीरता से लिया जाता है। अन्ना ने एक सनसनीखेज रहस्योद्घाटन किया कि एक मंत्री ने उन्हें मारने के लिए 30 लाख रुपये की सुपारी भी दी, लेकिन वह इससे विचलित होने वाले नहीं। अन्ना के इस आरोप की जांच होनी चाहिए। कौन था वह मंत्री जिसने यह सुपारी दी? अन्ना ने यह भी कहा कि सरकार जनसेवक होती है जो जनता के सोने के कारण से मालिक बन बैठी है, अब उसे बताने का समय आ गया है कि असल मालिक कौन है, कौन सेवक है। यूपीए सरकार पर चौतरफा दबाव बढ़ता जा रहा है और जैसे एंटनी ने कहा कि अब यह क्रांति रुकने वाली नहीं है।

दयानिधि मारन से कन्नी काटी प्रधानमंत्री व कांग्रेस ने

दयानिधि मारन बुरी तरह से फंसते जा रहे हैं। जैसे डीएमके के अन्य मंत्रियों व नेताओं ने यूपीए सरकार को कटघरे में खड़ा करवाया ठीक उसी तरह मारन ने अब प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह के लिए एक नया सिरदर्द खड़ा कर दिया है। मनमोहन सिंह पहले से ही ए. राजा, कनिमोझी विवाद को लेकर कटघरे में खड़े हैं अब दयानिधि ने उनकी फजीहत बढ़ा दी है। 2004 से 2007 तक हुए स्पेक्ट्रम घोटाले को लेकर यूपीए पहले ही अंगुलियां जला बैठी है, क्योंकि ए. राजा और सुरेश कलमाड़ी को बचाने का अंजाम वह देख चुकी है। अब शायद ही प्रधानमंत्री दयानिधि मारन को बचाने की कोशिश करें। दयानिधि के खिलाफ गम्भीर आरोप हैं। अनिवासी भारतीय एस. शिवशंकरन को उनकी कम्पनी एयरसेल को बेचने के लिए मजबूर करने के आरोपी केंद्रीय कपड़ा मंत्री दयानिधि मारन का जाना अब लगभग तय-सा लगता है। मारन के खिलाफ आरोपों और संबंधित सुबूतों के बारे में सीबीआई ने प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह को विस्तृत रिपोर्ट दे दी है। शिवशंकरन ने सोमवार को सीबीआई को बताया था कि किस तरह दूरसंचार मंत्री रहते हुए उन्हें एयरसेल बेचने के लिए दयानिधि मारन ने मजबूर किया था। एयरसेल मामले में दयानिधि मारन की भूमिका पर प्रधानमंत्री को विस्तृत रिपोर्ट देने की पुष्टि करते हुए सीबीआई के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने कहा कि कपड़ा मंत्री के खिलाफ लगाए गए आरोप काफी गम्भीर हैं और उनकी पूरी जांच की जरूरत है। शिवशंकरन ने जांच एजेंसी को उन लोगों के नाम-पते दिए हैं, जो मारन की ज्यादतियों के चश्मदीद गवाह हैं। मारन इन्हीं लोगों के माध्यम से शिवशंकरन पर एयरसेल को बेचने के लिए दबाव बना रहे थे। इनमें एयरसेल से जुड़े वकील और चार्टर्ड एकाउंटेंट शामिल हैं। शिवशंकरन का कहना था कि दूरसंचार मंत्री रहते हुए मारन ने उनके वाणिज्यिक साम्राज्य को पूरी तरह से ध्वस्त कर दिया और उन्हें देश से भागने पर मजबूर कर दिया।

आज की तारीख में भ्रष्टाचार का मुद्दा घर-घर तक चर्चा का विषय बना हुआ है। तभी तो भ्रष्टाचार और काले धन को लेकर आज के सूरत-ए-हाल में लोकायुक्त गठन की जरूरत महसूस की जा रही है। यही कारण है कि कांग्रेस नेतृत्व आज दयानिधि मारन से फासले बढ़ा रहा है और सरकार या कांग्रेस शायद ही उन्हें अब बचा पाए। दयानिधि मारन को संकेत दे भी दिए गए हैं। वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी से उनकी मुलाकात के दौरान उन्हें संकेत दे दिए गए हैं। प्रधानमंत्री पहले ही सीबीआई से कह चुके हैं कि 2जी स्पेक्ट्रम घोटाले मामले में सभी आरोपों की जांच की जाए जिनमें मारन के विरुद्ध आरोप भी शामिल हैं। इन आरोपों पर सीबीआई जांच की स्थिति रिपोर्ट प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय पहुंच चुकी है। देखना अब यह है कि द्रमुक प्रमुख करुणानिधि का अब क्या रुख होता है। दो दिन पहले करुणानिधि ने प्रधानमंत्री को कनिमोझी की गिरफ्तारी के लिए सीधे जिम्मेदार ठहराया था। अब अगर दयानिधि मारन हिरासत में लिए जाते हैं तो करुणानिधि क्या करेंगे? क्या वह यूपीए सरकार से अपने मंत्रियों को हटाने का आदेश देते हैं? समर्थन वापसी की तो वह पहले ही घोषणा कर चुके हैं।

उमा भारती की वापसी : सही दिशा में सही कदम

अंतत भाजपा के प्रधानमंत्री पद के तमाम दावेदारों के विरोध के बावजूद भाजपा अध्यक्ष नितिन गडकरी ने उमा भारती को वापस पार्टी में शामिल कर लिया है। जब उमा भारती को भाजपा में फिर शामिल करने की घोषणा गडकरी पार्टी मुख्यालय में कर रहे थे तो उनका धुर विरोध करने वाले अरुण जेटली व सुषमा स्वराज और वेंकैया नायडू नदारद थे। दरअसल उमा भारती की वापसी के पीछे कई कारण, कई मजबूरियां थीं। सबसे अहम बात तो यह है कि आजकल सभी पार्टियों का फोकस मिशन यूपी 2012 पर लगा हुआ है। भाजपा नेतृत्व यह समझ रहा है कि कांग्रेस की हवा दिन-प्रतिदिन खराब होती जा रही है पर इससे भाजपा का रास्ता आसान नहीं हो रहा है। दिल्ली की गद्दी का रास्ता वाया यूपी आता है। इसलिए अगर उत्तर प्रदेश में पार्टी ने अच्छा प्रदर्शन नहीं किया तो दिल्ली दरबार तक पहुंचना आसान नहीं होगा। यूपी में वैसे भी भाजपा के नेतृत्व का अभाव है, जो नेता हैं वह तमाम पूंके कारतूस की तरह हैं। भाजपा को यूपी में नई जान पूंकने के लिए एक ऐसा चेहरा चाहिए था जो युवाओं, महिलाओं, पिछड़ों व हिन्दुत्व वोटों को एक साथ पार्टी के पीछे ला सके। उमा भारती में नितिन गडकरी को लगा कि यह सब खूबियां मौजूद हैं। वह कुशल प्रशासक भी हैं। जब वह मध्य प्रदेश की मुख्यमंत्री थीं तो उन्होंने अच्छा शासन दिया था। उन्हीं के बल पर पार्टी सत्ता में आई थी।

उमा भारती की छह साल बाद वापसी हुई है। भाजपा नेतृत्व व रणनीतिकारों का मानना है कि जिस तरह से उमा भारती आक्रमक राजनीति करती हैं उनका मुकाबला उनके शब्दों और शैली में करने के लिए पार्टी के पास कोई वैसा नेता प्रदेश में मौजूद नहीं था जो उनकी भाषा में उनको जवाब दे सके। भाजपा का मानना है कि यदि पार्टी को उत्तर प्रदेश में सीटों में बढ़ोतरी न भी कर पाए तो भी वह जिस शैली में भाषण देती हैं उससे पार्टी के एक माहौल बनाने में सहायता अवश्य मिलेगी। सामाजिक संरचना की दृष्टि से भी अगर देखा जाए तो पार्टी को कद्दावर नेता रहे कल्याण सिंह की पार्टी से छुट्टी और पुनर्वापसी के बाद भी पार्टी अपने रुठे पिछड़े वर्ग को पार्टी में जोड़ने में असफल रही। उमा भारती का लोद जाति का होना भी पार्टी के लिए अच्छा है। हो सकता है कि जातिवाद की राजनीति के लिए मशहूर उत्तर प्रदेश में पिछड़ा वर्ग शायद उमा के कारण पार्टी से जुड़ जाए?

उमा भारती की मुश्किल यह है कि जब उन्हें गुस्सा आता है तो वह सब कुछ भूल जाती हैं और अपने आपे से बाहर हो जाती हैं। मुझे वह सीन आज भी याद है जब लगभग साढ़े पांच वर्ष पूर्व उमा भारती ने मीडिया के सामने ही लाल कृष्ण आडवाणी की उपस्थिति में पार्टी के कुछ लोगों पर ऑफ द रिकॉर्ड बात करने, छवि खराब करने और अपनी उपेक्षा का आरोप लगाया था और भरी मीटिंग से उठकर चली गई थीं। तब भाजपा संसदीय बोर्ड ने छह दिसम्बर 2005 को उन्हें पार्टी की प्राथमिक सदस्यता से निष्कासित कर दिया था। जहां हम समझते हैं कि श्री नितिन गडकरी ने सही दिशा में एक सही कदम उठाया है वहीं उमा ने भी पिछले पांच-छह सालों में सीख ली होगी और भविष्य में वह अनुशासन की लक्ष्मण रेखा नहीं लांघेंगी।

बाबा का हठयोग सरकार के लट्ठयोग के सामने बेबस

शनिवार रात बाबा रामदेव और उनके समर्थकों को जिस तरीके से दिल्ली पुलिस ने खदेड़ा वह आजकल जबरदस्त चर्चा का विषय बना हुआ है। तमाम इलैक्ट्रॉनिक और प्रिन्ट मीडिया में यह मुद्दा छाया हुआ है। शनिवार को जो हुआ उस पर जनता की प्रतिक्रिया दो प्रकार की है। कुछ हैं जो कहते हैं कि बाबा के साथ जो हुआ सही हुआ और यही होना भी चाहिए था। बाबा ने सारी सीमाएं पार कर दी थीं। समझौता होने के बाद भी अपना अनशन जारी रखने की घोषणा करके उन्होंने सरकार का गुस्सा मोल लिया। कुछ का कहना है कि बाबा ने दिल्ली पुलिस से जो आज्ञा ली थी वह एक योग शिविर लगाने की ली थी और कहीं भी उन्होंने अनशन और सत्याग्रह की बात नहीं कही थी और अपने समर्थकों की भी संख्या तीन हजार बताई थी और आश्वासन दिया था कि रामलीला मैदान में इससे ज्यादा समर्थक नहीं होंगे। फिर भी उन्होंने न केवल अनशन, सत्याग्रह किया बल्कि उनके हजारों की संख्या में शिष्य इकट्ठा हुए। इसलिए प्रशासन को उचित कार्रवाई करने का हक था। जहां तक मनमोहन सरकार और कांग्रेस पार्टी की प्रतिक्रिया का सवाल है तो पार्टी महासचिव दिग्विजय सिंह की टिप्पणी पर्याप्त थी। बाबा रामदेव पर शुरू से निशाना साधते रहे दिग्विजय सिंह ने उन्हें अब ठग करार देते हुए उनकी गतिविधियों की जांच की मांग की है। सरकार की कार्रवाई को सही ठहराते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि बाबा के साथ वही हुआ जो एक ठग के साथ होना चाहिए। दिग्विजय ने कहा कि बाबा ने दिल्ली आकर स्वामी शंकर देव के कुशल बाग आश्रम में शरण ली पर बाद में उन्हें छोड़ दिया। इसके बाद योग सिखाने वाले बाबा करमवीर को भी उन्होंने ठगा। उन्होंने कहा कि जुलाई 2007 से स्वामी शंकर देव गायब हैं और उनका कोई पता नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि रामदेव ने बिना किसी लाइसेंस के कैंसर जैसी बीमारी को खत्म करने के दावे कर अनुयायियों और जनता को ठगा है। जनता की तरह वह शायद सरकार को भी ठगना चाहते थे। यह हैं उन लोगों के विचार और दलीलें जो शनिवार रात की कार्रवाई को उचित मानते हैं।

दूसरी ओर अधिकतर जनता मानती है कि सरकार ने बहुत भारी गलती की और इसे कभी माफ नहीं किया जा सकता। मुझे यह कहने में कोई संकोच नहीं कि सरकार ने बाबा मामले को शुरू से ही गलत तरीके से हैंडिल किया। सबसे पहली गलती तो यह थी कि सरकार को बाबा को अनशन करने की आज्ञा ही नहीं देनी चाहिए थी। दिल्ली के कानूनों के तहत रामलीला मैदान पर राजनीतिक गतिविधियां नहीं हो सकतीं। भारत स्वाभिमान मंच और पतांजलि योगा समिति ने एक योग शिविर और धरने की आज्ञा मांगी थी। सरकार चाहती तो वह कह सकती थी कि हम योग शिविर की तो आज्ञा दे सकते हैं पर धरने की आज्ञा नहीं देंगे। जो परमिशन के लिए पत्र दिया गया था उसमें समर्थकों की संख्या तीन हजार बताई गई थी पर सरकार को उसकी गुप्तचर एजेंसियों ने अच्छी तरह बता दिया था कि यह संख्या तीन हजार से बहुत ज्यादा होगी। दूसरी चूक या बलंडर सरकार से यह हुआ कि जब बाबा दिल्ली आए तो हवाई अड्डे पर उनका स्वागत करने के लिए मनमोहन मंत्रिमंडल के नम्बर दो मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी समेत चार भारत सरकार के मंत्री स्वागत करने पहुंचे क्यों? क्यों नहीं बाबा को दिल्ली के हवाई अड्डे से बाहर नहीं आने दिया गया? खबर है कि सरकार ने एक बीएसएफ का विमान विशेष रूप से तैयार रखा था जो उस सूरत में बाबा को वापस हरिद्वार ले जाता पर ऐसा नहीं किया गया। तीसरी सबसे बड़ी हिमाकत सरकार ने शनिवार रात को एक बजे की जब रामलीला मैदान में सोते बाबा समर्थकों को जिनमें महिलाएं, बच्चे, बुजुर्ग सभी शामिल थे, को खदेड़ा। दिल्ली पुलिस ने इस बर्बरता का प्रदर्शन इस प्रकार किया कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट भी चौंक गया और सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने इस मामले का अपने आप संज्ञान लेते हुए केंद्र सरकार और दिल्ली प्रशासन को नोटिस जारी कर दो सप्ताह के बीच इसका जवाब देने को कहा है। रामलीला मैदान में शनिवार रात बरपाए गए पुलिसिया कहर इतना भयानक था कि सुनकर ही रौंगटे खड़े हो जाते हैं। पुलिसिया कहर में 100 से ज्यादा लोग घायल हुए जिनमें से कइयों की हालत गम्भीर बनी हुई है। बाबा के सत्याग्रह को तहस-नहस करने के लिए पुलिस ने हर तरह के हथकंडे अपनाए। अनशनकारियों का कहना है कि पुलिस ने न सिर्प लोगों को मारपीट कर पंडाल से खदेड़ दिया बल्कि मंच को भी आग के हवाले कर दिया। पुलिस द्वारा छोड़े गए आंसू गैस के गोले से मंच पर आग लग गई। आग के कारण अफरा-तफरी मच गई और उपर वाले का शुक्रिया अदा करना चाहिए कि यह दूसरा डबवाली नहीं बन गया। सैकड़ों लोगों की जानें जा सकती थीं, जिस तरीके से सोते लोगों पर पुलिस ने लाठी भांजीं या उस भागदौड़ में दर्जनों बच्चे, महिला, बुजुर्ग दबकर मर सकते थे। पुलिस की बर्बरता के शिकार हुए भुगतभोगियों की दास्तान सुनकर कोई भी बौखला उठे। अनशनकारियों का कहना है कि उन्होंने जलियांवाले बाग की घटना के बारे में किताबों में पढ़ा था लेकिन शनिवार की रात उस घटना को दोहराते हुए अपनी आंखों से देख लिया। पुलिस की लाठियों का शिकार हुए अनशनकारियों में ऐसी अनेक महिलाएं भी शामिल हैं जिनके साथ अभद्रता व कूरता की सीमाओं को भी पुलिस ने तोड़ दिया। पुलिस की बर्बरता से बचने के लिए बाबा रामदेव के समर्थक बदहवासी की हालत में रामलीला मैदान से बाहर तो भाग गए, लेकिन बाहर आने के बाद उन्हें अहसास हुआ कि न ही उनके पास पहनने को उपयुक्त कपड़े हैं और न ही घर जाने के पैसे। जो कुछ हुआ वह हड़बड़ाहट में रामलीला मैदान के अन्दर ही छूट गया, अब इस हालत में आखिर जाएं तो कहां? कुछ समर्थक अंधेरी सड़कों पर उम्मीद का दीया लिए आसरे की टोह में आईटीओ और कनॉट प्लेस की ओर चले तो कुछ का रुख रेलवे स्टेशन की ओर हो गया। कुछ महिलाएं तो अपनी आन-बान बचाने के लिए रात के घोर अंधेरे में रणजीत सिंह फ्लाइओवर से चलकर आर्य अनाथालय, 13 बाराखम्भा रोड शरण लेने पहुंचीं। यह आर्य अनाथालय श्री वीरेश प्रताप चौधरी चलाते हैं और यहां बाबा आते-जाते रहते हैं। कुछ को और कोई रास्ता नजर न आता देख बाबा के सैकड़ों समर्थकों का कारवां बंगला साहिब और रकाबगंज गुरुद्वारे की ओर चल पड़ा। चूंकि जेब में इतने पैसे नहीं थे कि कोई साधन तलाशते, इसलिए पैदल ही गुरुद्वारों में शरण लेने चल पड़े। पुलिस की बर्बरता का शिकार हुए इन साधकों की हालत देख गुरुद्वारों में मौजूद सेवादारों ने साधकों को हाथों हाथ लेते हुए न केवल रुकने की व्यवस्था की बल्कि 24 घंटे के अनशन पर बैठे साधकों को लंगर के लिए आमंत्रित किया। इस दौरान बाबा के बहुत से ऐसे साधक थे, जिन्होंने यह कहते हुए भी खाने से इंकार कर दिया कि आसरे की छत मिल गई, यही हमारे लिए बहुत है, अनशन तो तभी तोड़ेंगे जब बाबा जी का आदेश मिलेगा। वहीं इनमें से कई साधक ऐसे थे कि जिन्होंने सेवादारों के बार-बार आग्रह करने के बाद भोजन ग्रहण किया। बंगला साहिब गुरुद्वारे में उत्तर प्रदेश के महोबा से आई मीनाक्षी शुक्ला के अनुसार पुलिस ने जिस तरह उन्हें रामलीला मैदान से खदेड़ा उस समय यह लग रहा था मानों किसी ने उन्हें घर से बेघर कर दिया। अब तो न मेरे पास पहनने को कपड़े हैं और न ही घर वापस जाने को पैसे।

चौंकाने वाली बात यह भी है कि उस रात से बहुत से लोग अब भी लापता हैं। एक प्रत्यक्षदर्शी के अनुसार पुलिस कुछ ब्लू लाइन बसें लेकर आई थी। इसमें भर-भर कर लोगों को रामलीला मैदान से ले जाया गया। उनके परिजन उनकी तलाश में अस्पतालों, धर्मशालाओं तथा अनशन स्थल के आसपास जगहों पर भटक रहे हैं। लापता लोगों में कई महिलाएं भी शामिल हैं। झारखंड के जमशेदपुर से लगभग 100 लोगों के जत्थे के साथ बाबा रामदेव के सत्याग्रह में पहुंचे शैलेन्द्र कुमार ने रोते हुए बताया कि उनके साथ झारखंड के बोराजुड़ी गांव से आईं तीन महिलाएं रात से ही लापता हैं। 53 वर्षीय कमला भगत, 50 वर्षीय रेणुका और सुशीला मांझी का कोई पता नहीं है। दुःखद पहलू यह भी है कि केंद्र सरकार का कोई भी मंत्री घायलों को देखने किसी भी अस्पताल में नहीं पहुंचा।

मेरी राय में तो सरकार जीती हुई बाजी हार गई। पुलिस कार्रवाई के कारण वह सब कुछ तो दब गया और सरकार भारत में ंही नहीं, सारी दुनिया में कटघरे में खड़ी हो गई। अमेरिका तक इसकी निन्दा हो रही है। बाबा चमक गए, रातोरात हीरो बन गए। मुझे यह समझ नहीं आया कि मान लो बाबा ने वादाखिलाफी की और आंदोलन जारी रखने की घोषणा कर दी तो क्या फर्प पड़ता था? आखिर सरकार को ऐसी क्या जल्दी थी कि रात एक बजे सोते बुजुर्गों, बच्चों व महिलाओं पर डंडे बरसा दिए? महत्वपूर्ण सवाल यह है कि सारे प्रकरण का जनता पर क्या असर होगा? क्या भारत की जनता अब यह नहीं कहेगी कि यह दमनकारी सरकार है, भ्रष्ट है और भ्रष्टाचारियों को संरक्षण दे रही है? मुझे जरनैल सिंह भिंडरांवाले का किस्सा याद आ रहा है। पहले सरकार ने उसे चढ़ाया और बाद में ऑपरेशन ब्लू स्टार किया। इतिहास फिर दोहरा रहा है। रही-सही कसर दिग्विजय सिंह सरीखे के नेता पूरी कर रहे हैं। वह एक तरफ बाबा के समर्थकों को संगठित कर रहे हैं वहीं हिन्दुओं को भी बार-बार उकसा रहे हैं। दिग्विजय सिंह ओसामा को तो ओसामा जी कहते हैं और बाबा को ठग। सरकार के लिए एक बहुत बड़ी मुसीबत खड़ी हो गई है। पहले से चौतरफा घिरी सरकार ने `आ बैल मुझे मार' नीति अपनाई है। अब देखें कि अन्ना हजारे के आंदोलन से कैसे निपटती है जो उन्होंने आठ जून को करने की घोषणा की है।

Shahzad silenced, but the pen survives

The brutal murder of Pakistani journalist Syed Salim Shahzad has angered Pakistanis. His murder is being condemned all over Pakistan. Pak media is openly saying that Pakistan has become a dangerous place for Pak journalists to work in. The Pakistaniat.com blogger Adil Nazam has termed the death of Shahzad as a warning to the country, while the writer of ‘a case of exploding mangoes’, Mohammed Hanif asks on twitter: Is there any journalist here who belives that intelligence agencies are not behind this murder? Nazam writes that Pakistanis have become accustomed to living under insecurity and constant fear. Today, they are feeling more unsecure and afraid. In its editorial, the Daily Times has said that this murder of a journalist amounts to a warning to the journalist fraternity to desist from honest reporting otherwise same fate awaits them. The Dawn newspaper says that in fact, it is almost impossible for Pakistan to get rid of this image of it being a dangerous place for world journalists to work in.
Before going missing, Shahzad, in an article had mentioned of connivance between some Pak Naval officers and terror organization, al-Qaeda. He was working as Bureau Chief of the online newspaper Asian Times. He also worked as a reporter for the Times of India for a brief period. Also working for an Italian News Agency, Shahzad had often been writing about Pak and Afghan terrorists and their relations with Pak institutions. Two days before he went missing, Shahzad had mentioned about the connivance between some officers of Pak Naval establishment and terrorist organizations. For quite some time, he was on the hit-list of ISI and had been threatened of death by the ISI. He wrote an article titled ‘al-Qaeda head warned of Pakistan strike’ on 27 May in Asia Times on-line, in which he mentioned that the 22 May al-Qaeda attack on PNS Mehran Naval Base took place only after breaking of talks between al-Qaeda and Naval officers. Al-Qaeda wanted Naval officers to release its supporters arrested by them on the charges of terror links. According to Pak media reports, country’s intelligence agency, ISI has kidnapped him. A number of international journalist and human right organizations also appealed to the Pakistan government to find Shahzad. No terror outfit has claimed responsibility of killing Shahzad. Shahzad’s death has clearly shown that journalists in Pakistan are risking their lives while working.
A fearless Pak journalist, 40- year Syed Salim Shahzad was missing for a week. His body was recovered on Tuesday morning from Sarai Aalamgir area of Jhelum town about 200 kms from Lahore. His abandoned car was also found nearby. It was clear from the condition of the body that the journalist had been subjected to brutal torture. Geo TV had shown a black and white photograph of Shahzad in one of its programme, the facial expression on which clearly showed signs of torture, which he was subjected to.
On Sunday evening, Shahzad left his home in Islamabad for ‘Duniya’ news channel, where he was to participate in TV programme on terror attack on Mehran Naval Base.
Shahzad wrote a book ‘Inside al-Qaeda and Taliban : beyond bin Laden and 9/11’ which was published by the Dawn newspaper on May 20. This book explains the background and modus operandi of 2008 Mumbai attack in detail. An expert in operations against India, Iliayas Kashmiri astonished the al-Qaeda leadership with his proposal, which suggested that the only solution to end the present deadlock was to expand the war. He advised for a massive campaign which may lead to war between India and Pakistan and which ultimately result in abandonment of all operations against al-Qaeda. Excited by the proposal, al-Qaeda approved the terror attack on India. Shahzad, further writes that Kashmiri handed over the complete plan of the proposed attack to former Major of Pakistan Army, Haroon Aashif, who with the help of Iliyas Kashmiri’s men hijacked the plan and transformed it into a devastating Mumbai attack.
In fact, Shahzad had collected highly explosive information about ISI and al-Qaeda and this investigative journalism proved the death nail in his coffin. Shahzad had expressed his apprehension about a secret mission of the ISI, under which dirty bombs were being developed, and this was in addition to its officially assigned nuclear weapon programme. He feared that some ISI officers could provide these weapons to the terrorist organizations. Syed Salim Shahzad had sufficient information about terrorism in Afghanistan and Pakistan, which was not palatable to ISI. Perhaps, he had the knowledge of nuclear weapons in the possession of al-Qaeda and the conspiracy of their being used against Israel and India. Before he could make more revelations, he was silenced. He was silenced, but his pen survives.
