Pakistan - advocating death sentence to Kasab

- Anil Narendra
Declaring Ajmal Kasab, accused of Mumbai terrorist attacks of 26/11 a terrorist, the Interior Minister of Pakistan, Rehman Malik advocated him to be hanged. At the sidelines of 17th SAARC Summit, Malik said, 'Pakistan has nothing to do with his activities. He is a non-state actor and should be hanged.' But commenting on Smjhauta Train blast also, he said that incidents like Mumbai attack and Samjhauta blast are adversely affecting the relations between both the countries. We fail to understand why Rehman made such a remark? Pakistan has been known for saying something and doing the opposite. The world knows that Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI was behind the Mumbai terror attacks. Countries like US and UK have also accepted this truth. Pakistan has excluded Jamat-ud-Dawa from the list of terrorist organizations. We should not take Pakistan's remarks at 17th SAARC Summit at Maldives seriously. According to sources, Pakistan's Interior Ministry had issued a list of 31 banned terrorist organizations, but it did not contain the name of Jamat-ud-Dawa, considered to be the umbrella organization for the most dangerous terror outfit in South Asia, Lashkr-e-Toiba. It was banned under the pressure from US and United Nations.
When it became clear that this organization was behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, India and US both demanded this outfit to be banned. United Nations Security Council banned this outfit vide its resolution No 1267. Besides, Australia, Britain and European Union also included this organization in the list of banned organizations. Under pressure from all sides, Pakistan also declared JuD as a banned outfit on 7th December 2008. It may be noted that Pakistan never seriously took any action against JuD Chief Hafiz Mohammed Said. He was detained, but later was set free by the Court for want of evidence. FBI had also played an important role in the investigations of Mumbai attacks, as a number of American citizens were killed in this attack. Both, India and US also handed over important evidence to Pakistan. Now, Rehman Malik is saying that Hafiz Said was not released by his government, but by the Supreme Court. ISI's intention also became clear in this case. During the hearing, the prosecution submitted information about involvement in the attack, but not proofs to that effect. Courts base their decisions on evidence not on mere information. How ridiculous is the argument? India had made available solid proofs to Pakistan. It may be mentioned that Pak government or its intelligence agency has not allowed any foreign investigation agency to interrogate Hafiz Mohammed Said.
Everybody knows that ISI and Lashkar were behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. I had recently referred to a BBC programme in this column. I am recalling it again just to remind Pak Interior Minister Rehman Malik of certain facts. BBC is an impartial-independent agency, whose credibility is beyond challenge. It has broadcast a programme titled 'Secret Pakistan' in two parts. In the first part, CIA official, Bruce Rudil, former adviser to the US President, Barack Obama, was quoted. Terrorists coming from Pakistan had attacked a number of important places in Mumbai on 26th November, 2008. Obama had been elected as the President of America by then, but he had not taken oath of the Office of the President. Rudil said, 'I asked Pak President to stop playing double game with us. He was also told that Pakistan has been doing this to US and its friends for many years. It is apprehended that such attacks will continue in future also.' Rudil said, 'There are imprints of Lashkar-e-Toiba all over these attacks (26/11). It was quite clear from the beginning that it was the job of LeT.' He further said, 'When you once connect these attacks with Lashkar, then these are sure to be linked to the Pak intelligence agency ISI.' In the second part of the programme, it was said that CIA had received information about direct involvement of ISI in Mumbai attacks.
Pakistan Interior Minister's remarks about hanging Kasab, cannot be taken seriously. Perhaps Rehman Malik wanted to mislead and make fool of the world, especially India with such remarks. But, such remarks cannot absolve Pakistan. Everybody knows that ISI and Pak Army are protecting these organizations and providing all possible help. In the beginning, Pakistan had refused to accept that Ajmal Kasab was a Pakistani citizen, which is the indicator of its intention. Till date, it has not accepted the bodies of the terrorists killed in the Mumbai attacks. Pakistan even did not take the bodies of its soldiers, who had entered Indian territories as infiltrators during the Kargil war. India had to perform their final rites. Rehman Malik also said that there was nothing surprising in Pakistan not being aware of the presence of Osama bin Laden in Abbotabad. He was a trained terrorist leader and he must have had full knowledge how to hide and where to hide. Sources say that in this case, Pakistan itself is providing protection to the Chief of Lashkar-e-Toiba, most dangerous terror outfit of South Asia, Hafiz Said. India no more will be tricked by Rehman Malik and his masters. Enough is enough.
