Outgoing Obama shocks Israel

Despite the acute pressure from the newly elected US President Donald Trump and pro-Israel lobby, Obama administration helped the United Nations Security Council in passing the motion condemning the establishment of settlements  in disputed area by Israel. The US was under pressure to hold censure motion by using its veto. The United Nations have asked Israel to remove the illegal Jewish settlements from the Palestinian territory. Not buckling under the heavy pressure, US allowed the Security Council to pass the motion by abstaining and avoiding to use its veto. It is the rarest moment when the US neither exercise its veto nor participated in the voting. Besides Israel, the motion was being opposed by the newly elected US President Donald Trump. Reacting to it, Trump wrote on Twitter: situations will change for the UN after 20th January. The US ambassador to the UN Samantha Powel has said that construction of Jewish settlements is a constraint in the two-nation solution between Israel and Palestine. The UN has declared these settlements as illegal and illegal settlements here are increasing. Presently 430,000 Jewish are there in illegal Jewish settlements at Western shore and 200,000 Jewish are in East Jerusalem and Palestinians see the East Jerusalem as the future capital.

Meanwhile the office of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel condemns this anti-Israel shameful motion in the United Nations and will not comply with it. He said that the US Administration not only failed to protect Israel from this assemblage but it also conspired with it behind the screen. It said that Israel would like to remove the harmful effects of this senseless motion by working with the newly elected US President Trump and all our friends in Republican Party and Democratic Party in the Congress.

Just before two days of voting and Israeli officer had alleged the US to leave Israel in a dilemma. In fact, had the US exercised the veto, the motion would have fell. But it didn’t happen. This US step is being treated as a diplomatic damnation of Israel, its nearest associate.
