During campaigning of Lok Sabha, he used to taunt Congress for its collapse and say that Congress MLAs can go to the Assembly by riding in a car like Innova. Current Delhi Assembly elections are over and results boomeranged on BJP itself. BJP has suffered a rude shock in Delhi's Assembly elections and its situation became worse than last elections. Now its MLAs can go to the Assembly riding on even smaller vehicle like auto rickshaw. Congratulating Arvind Kejriwal, Coordinator of AAP, on this historical victory, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that crushing defeat of BJP is result of over campaigning of issues like Love Jihad, Ghar Wapsi, Four Children etc. Public of Uttar Pradesh will teach a lesson to BJP in 2017 Assembly Elections in the same fashion as Delhiites taught it by denying these issues altogether, he further added. On one hand global media termed AAP’s stunning victory as political earthquake, on the other hand taking a jibe on Narendra Modi the International media said what goes up must come down. Commenting of BJP’s defeat in Delhi Assembly election, less than a year after the party's stunning victory in the Lok Sabha election, The New York Times termed it as a "small political earthquake". Paper said that after registering a historic victory in Lok Sabha elections Modi became India's Prime Minister. Tuesday’s defeat in Delhi Assembly election is not less than a political earthquake. Washington Post termed it as "stunning defeat" at the hands of the upstart anti-corruption Aam Aadami Party. The newspaper wrote that Delhi election is a setback to Modi. CNN, for deriding Modi quoted Isaac Newton's principle of physics and said what goes up must come down. Global Media is abuzz more with Modi’s defeat than AAP’s triumph. Congratulating Aam Aadmi Party’s Chief Arvind Kejriwal for the landslide triumph, JD(U) said the people of Delhi have rejected Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP and the results will have far reaching effect on the entire country, including Bihar. JD(U) State President at Patna said that Arvind Kejriwal has won a big fight. The results also indicate that the people of Delhi have rejected the working style of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as BJP. The people have preferred a man with simple living against a person who wears a suit of Rs. 10 lakh and sent a message that a tea-seller, who wear a suit of Rs. 10 lakh, should not talk about common man.
Heavyweight MLA candidates of Congress couldn’t save their security deposit. Party failed to get even single seat and has created a history. Along with it, Congress set another record as its two-third candidates forfeited their security deposit. Only 8 out of the 70 Congress candidates could save their security deposit. Even Ajay Maken, party's poll campaign face, forfeited his security deposit. Half of Congress candidates could not cross the figure of 10000 whereas 13 candidates got lesser than 5000 votes. Kiran Walia got only 4781 votes. It will be Delhi’s first Congress-free Assembly i.e. without a single MLA from Congress Party. It happened for the first time in 130 year long history of Congress when even its single candidate couldn’t win a seat in any State Assembly Election and most of its candidates have forfeited their security deposit in a single election. Voters of Delhi rejected those leading politicians who were occupied in grabbing power by changing their parties just before this election. Former Union Minister Krishana Tirath, former assembly speaker M.S. Dheer, three former MLAs and three former councilors are among those who got defeat in this election.
After Lok Sabha election, whichever election the duo of PM Modi and Amit Shah has contested came out with flying colour. But it defeated in Delhi Assembly election. This is the first time in last 13 years when this duo has lost any election. Amit Shah started election management at the age of 19. He managed over three dozen elections ranging from Cooperative to Parliament elections and won election every time. Defeat of trio of Modi-Shah-Jethali brought elation for Modi’s opponents. Nitish Kumar and Mamta Banerjee are more than happy. First effect of AAP’s success is clearly visible in Bihar. Now BJP has distanced itself from Jitan Ram Manjhi. Elections in these three states are to be held in 2017. All four MPs are from Punjab. Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray said the sweeping AAP win in Delhi Assembly polls a 'tsunami' of AAP overpowered Modi’s wave. I told Kejariwal that he should not even think of quitting now. If I get invitation, I will go and attend the oath ceremony, he further added. Kiran Bedi’s husband said that BJP workers are responsible for this defeat. They didn’t support Kiran Bedi or else the story would have been different.
"The contest was widely viewed as a measure of Modi's political clout here. The bitterly fought election for control of the legislative assembly marks the first political setback to Modi's BJP since he became the PM last May," the paper said.
"Riding on Modi's soaring popularity, the BJP had won in a number of state elections in recent months, and they were expected to repeat their success Tuesday — a phenomenon dubbed Modi's 'victory chariot' by the media. But Delhi proved to be a tough battle for the BJP because of the appeal of the charismatic Kejriwal, a former tax officer-turned anti- corruption activist," it said.
CNN invoked Isaac Newton's physics principle to take a jibe at Modi, saying, "This week New Delhi will be talking about a very different scientific discipline: physics. After all, what goes up must come down."
"Since winning a broad mandate in national elections last May, and then repeating the feat in state elections across the country, India's ruling BJP has suffered a rude shock in Delhi's state elections," the US news channel said.
London's 'The Telegraph' termed BJP's defeat in the Delhi polls, in which the Congress drew a blank, as a "humiliating landslide" while Guardian described the stunning result as a "blow for Modi"
State president of JDU said Arvind Kejariwal has won a big battle. Results indicate that people of Delhi has rejected Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well functioning of BJP.
Congratulating Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal for the staggering victory, JD(U) today said the people of Delhi “have rejected Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP” and the results will have “far reaching effect” on the entire country, including Bihar.
“Arvind Kejriwal has won a big fight. His party has performed fantastically in Delhi polls. We congratulate him.
The results also indicate that the people of Delhi have rejected the working style of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP. The people have preferred a man with simple living against a person who wears a suit of Rs. 10 lakh,” said JD(U) state President Vashistha Narayan Singh.
“The Delhi poll results will have far-reaching effect on the entire country, including Bihar where elections are due later this year. The results show that the public will now vote on the basis of performance and not on high-pitched slogans. Non-issues like love-jihad and sectarianism have failed,” Singh added.
Singh’s statement came ater a meeting with senior JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, who has staked claim to form government in the state, and is awaiting response of Governor Kesri Nath Tripathi on the issue.
JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said that Delhi results have “taken away the halo around BJP” and that the good wishes of Nitish Kumar also worked in favour of AAP.
“The results have taken away the halo around BJP. Nitish Kumar’s good wishes to AAP and Arvind Kejriwal have worked,” he added.
