Two year tenure of the NDA government led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very much under review thesedays. Modi Government was sworn in on 26th May 2014. It has to be admitted that public opinion about Modi Government has emerged that undoubtedly the government’s record may not be much positive in case of fulfilling some of the election promises yet in general it has got achieved a pro-active image in the eyes of the public. Some media houses are bent on criticizing it while others are going all out praising it. All the ministers are propagating their achievements overtime during the last two years but it has to be said surely this government has introduced many development schemes which will yield results also, but this will take some time. It will take many years for positive results. One the other hand we do not hesitate to say the preceding governments have spoilt the taste of the public. Public now wants instant results without hard working and waiting. Most of the public is concerned about it’s Roti-Rozi. It wants to get rid of inflation, needs security, needs employment (that too instant) and it is unhappy with Modi Government on these accounts. It wants welfare schemes from this government. We watched in the recently concluded TamilNadu Assembly elections that how Jayalalitha centred herself to only these public welfare schemes. Amma brand flour, Amma canteen, Amma saree, Amma clinic,Amma Saris etc. were such schemes which fulfill the daily needs of the public. She got its benefit too. Since Narendra Modi was sworn in, some sections of the country including political opponents, minorities, a group of reporters and media, some intellectuals have literally waged a war against this government. Due to this one sect of the public, especially the minority one has developed a feeling of insecurity. The country has been divided to some extent. The government will have to put some solid efforts to minimize the feeling of insecurity, to bridge this gap, to keep the nation united. People are disappointed but not angry with the two years of Modi Government and most of them say that two years are not enough; we will have to wait for results. We do not hesitate to say that people have high expectations and at the moment they are feeling somewhat let down. Good days promised have not come yet though the efforts are going on. States have an important role in the performance of the Central Government at the ground level as most of the schemes are implemented by the states. Modi Government needs to have better co-ordination to maintain its repo with the states. Leaving one or two terrorist attacks the nation was peaceful in general. Inabilities counted by the media and other institutions need not be ignored and need to be taken seriously. For example, the Assocham has warned the government to be careful, as the huge amount of the loans blocked in the tax disputes and banking system may be much troublesome. Keeping in view the business recession, much is needed in this issue. Both the Government and the RBI need to be alert in this regard. Besides it , the government has to do much more regarding the disposal of tax disputes, agricultural reforms, disinvestment and important GST bill. At present the performance of the NDA government is like: work in progress : till the results of the solid efforts in railways and highways are not visible. On the international level, none can deny it that Narendra Modi has surged the prestige of Indians in the world, Indians throughout the world are seen more respectfully and are now being honoured and India is emerging as an emerging power. English Newspaper Economic Times and Big data firm Mavne Magnet had an online survey for public opinion on the two years’ performance of the Modi Government. The result was brought out on the basis of conversation with people on social media, blogs and topics on news sites. This study is based on more than 15000 conversations over internet during 1st June 2015 to 20th April 2016. As per study 48 per cent people had positive attitude on the first anniversary of the Modi Government. But this got 8 per cent negative this year. As per study, on the conversation about the government 46 per cent people were positive, while 54 per cent were not. Attraction towards Modi Government of 48 per cent in the first year has decreased by 8 per cent in the second year. We expect from Modi Government that it will be aware of this. The upcoming one or two year will be either make or break moment. During this it will not only require full speed to fulfill the promises but will have to put efforts to show them on ground also. The next year will decide the fate of the Modi Government. There are 5 such issues, points that are important for the government. During these two years voices were being raised somewhere that the government didn’t take the bold steps in the economic front as expected. As such the government will have to take huge steps fronts like labour, bank, land reforms including GST next year. Economic development has not speeded even after two years. Exports are down. Rural economy is in poor state and new projects are not coming forward. However the government succeeded to some extent to give a message amidst such negativity and global crisis (economic) that the steps taken by it will show its results soon. As such how far the government is true on these claims will decide the fate of the government. Modi Government has come to the power after the scandals of the UPA government. It has succeeded to curb the corruption after assuming the power. But now it will not work with mere allegations, the honeymoon period is over. If these scandals are not met with solid actions, its intention may be in question. In all we can say that the results of the two year tenure are some what sweet and sour.
