Manmohan Government’s three years of achievements : Disappointment and Desperation

- Anil Narendra

The UPA Government, on its third anniversary, has given a magnificent gift to the nation. It has raised the petrol prices in a stroke by Rs 7-50 per litre. The value of rupee has plunged to all time low. Rupee's value vis-à-vis dollar has reached to 55.39. Inflation is also galloping and the beauty of all this is that the government claims all this beyond its control. It is helpless in the face of international trends. It appears that now, the government has started thinking this as its last inning and can do whatever it wants, as it is not going to make any difference. Since it would not be coming to power again, it is free to take whatever decisions, right or wrong, it wants to take . People are helpless and they can't do any thing. Perhaps people had never dreamt that electing such a Government would prove disastrous for them. The image of the Congress-led UPA Government has gone to such a low that in case elections are held in the immediate future, it is sure to fall flat. According to a survey by the News Channel IBN-7, people are very angry with the UPA Government. When asked about a second chance for UPA Government, 49% persons replied in negative. Not only this, 55% persons were of the opinion that Manmohan Singh should remain as the Prime Minister. 33% of the respondents said that Rahul Gandhi should replace Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister, whereas 20% were in favour of Pranab Mukherjee and only 7% wanted Sonia Gandhi to be appointed as Prime Minister. Inflation was the main reason for displeasure with the Government. When asked about major failure of Manmohan Government, 31% persons stated unbridled prices as the main reason. 17% persons considered corruption as the biggest failure, whereas 13% opined that halting growth rate is a major factor. 10% respondents said that Manmohan Singh failed to take prompt decision in case of emergency. A total of 59% persons were not satisfied with the work of the Government. Replying to a question about who should be the Prime Minister, in case NDA comes to power, 39% were in favour of Narendra Modi, whereas 17% voted for LK Advani. On the completion of three years of the Government, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh issued a report card on the achievements of the Government on Tuesday. The Prime Minister did not even mention about inflation on this occasion. The bitter truth is that the Government does not have any achievement to boast about to the people. This Government's only gifts to the people are inflation, corruption and disappointment. The Government has surpassed all the records of mal-governance. The wrong policies of the Government have led to outflow of capital. There is neither any plan to manage financial deficit nor any guarantee. As a result, rupee has reached the record low level. The entire economy is on the verge of a crash. Scams have spread restlessness throughout the country. On one pretext or the other, steps like Lokpal and Lokayukta capable of bridling corruptions are being deferred. Scams have also penetrated MNREGA like revolutionary schemes. People have started thinking that this Government is not interested in stopping scams. Bumper crops are there, but where are storage facilities for storing the food grains. As a result, food grain is rotting. Formers are finds no way out of their miseries, but to commit suicide. Youths are not getting jobs. And, the Government has only one excuse for every ill and that is the compulsion of alliance politics. Naxalism is spreading its tentacles, as the Government neither has any policy nor any will to confront the menace. There is an atmosphere of desperation all over the country and people are unable to decide what to do. Had the public got the weapon to put an end to such a Government, they would not have taken even ten seconds to do it.
