Aamir, what led you to make Delhi Belly?

- Anil Narendra
Aamir Khan’s film Delhi Belly is the latest topic of discussion these days. Controversies surround the dialogues, scenes and songs of the film. Finally, I mustered courage to see and understand the film. I saw the movie, but it pained me very much. I never expected such an indecent film from Aamir Khan. It was a punishment to sit through the film. It neither has a story line nor any logic. It is neither a comedy nor a gangster film, nor a family drama. It may be argued that it has been given A certificate, so that adolescents and children could not view the film, but everybody know that to what extent this law is enforced in theatres across the country? Are adolescents stopped entry to the cinema halls in cities like Kanpur, Patna, Rewari or Patiala? Its being an adult film is no excuse. Some of the scenes of this film border pornography. Dialogues are full of abuses, which make the viewers feel ashamed of. May be the youth of today appreciate all this, but the question pops up that where are we leading the young generation of today? It is also being said that producers and distributors are concerned with the film’s box office. But, I have never seen a film, simply for the reason that it is super hit at box office. The young generation are liking this film very much. Had Aamir Khan made this totally a porn film, perhaps, it would have been a better super hit and would have been appreciated more. He must be asked that why the producer of classic films like Lagaan, Rang de basanti has made this trash? Aamir Khanji, what values do you want to inculcate among your children?
Student-life plays a decisive role in one’s life, but today, environment, cinema, TV have their specific impacts on students. This is the phase, which carries full potential of strength, energy, ability and society and the nation along with the parents are also alert to this youth capability. During this decisive phase, noble ethics, noble acts and noble values along with the education serve as multiplying effect, but it is somewhat difficult to find conducive environment for this. Cinema has a lasting impact on the youth. What values we want to pass on to our new generation through films like Delhi Belly? These values are life-long useful for the youth. Should we not consider this? Or, you are concerned just with the super hit status of your film? If we consider the box office factor only, DK Bose song and abuses used in the film Delhi Belly and allegations of spreading indecency would appear absurd. In his press conference in New Delhi, when Aamir Khan said that his film has done 26 crores business during last three days, he must have this in his mind. I want to question the Censor Board of India, why this film was passed? The song, DK Bose bhag…is not going to stop even though it has indecent and ugly wordings. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has also asked the Censor Board, as to how this song was passed, when it is full filthy abuses. The Ministry should also ask the Censor Board, as to on what basis and what prompted it to award certificate to this film. Perhaps, the Board may reply that due to such reasons we have awarded it A certificate, but how many adults are viewing the film? Pankaj Sharma, member of the Censor Board, journalist and Secretary of the All India Congress Committee is also displeased with the film and Aamir Khan. He even regrets being the member of the Board, which is the height of it. He says that there are number of evils in the society, but it does not mean that we should also publicise these through films. He has told that he has put up his written objections on this film to the Chairman of the Censor Board. I demand that the Censor Board and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting should reconsider this film. This comes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Films have direct impact on the youth. Leave aside films, TV serials are also impacting the lives of the youth. Recently, encouraged by the CID serial, a Delhi woman plotted a bloody conspiracy to kill her lover that baffled the Police. The woman has been identified as Krishna (43). Krishna gave 1.5 lac rupees supari for his lover and took him with her to Mumbai. The Supari killer arranged for a room for her and her lover. The woman took her lover to the room and gave him drugs in his drinks and fled after killing him. She had witnessed the complete episode of CID serial and acted according to it. Along with the release of Delhi Belly, an Amitabh Bachchan film “Budha hoga tera baap” was also released. It is a very clean film. It is a good attempt to portray his old angry young man image in a new form. Just step out of the confine of stardom and we will see that a new thought from a new angle has been presented in this film. Generally, stories of films try to touch reality through exaggeration and this is their beauty too, but it often highlights such an aspect of our life, which we fail to view through normal means. In the film, Budha hoga tera baap, an elderly man deals with criminals and tries to save the society from the anti-social elements. This film depicts the spirit of self-confidence and accountability of an elderly people. But, what accountability of Aamir Khan does Delhi Belly film show? After hearing a petition demanding ban on this film in view of double meaning dialogues, hot scenes and song full of abuses, the Madhya Pradesh High Court issued notice to Aamir Khan. The Court has directed Aamir Khan to file reply to the notice by 12th July. The petitioner, Dr Ajay Seth says that people, especially the youth regard Aamir Khan as the god of the world of acting and he has produced a number of inspirational films too. But, Delhi Belly, produced by him, is an indecent film and abuses have been used in it, which is against Indian culture. The petition also says that despite blue film scenes in the film, the Censor Board has cleared it. Earlier, due to strong opposition, this film was banned in Nepal. I beg pardon of the young generation, perhaps they may not agree with my conservative viewpoint.
