Tread cautiously with china Beware of China’s double standard

 By Anil Narendra

It rarely happens in India that a head of state of a foreign country begins his visit from a city other than New Delhi. It was charisma of Prime Minister Narendera Modi that he attracted one the most powerful world leader Xi Jinping to Ahmedabad, Gujarat first.
The way top leadership of India and China had had a happy swing in Ahmadabad and shown confidence in each other is not only worthy for Asia but for the whole world.
They way China had expectation from India, later too had hope from China. At the summit level meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi message was very clear and candid that two great developing nations cannot remain captive of status quo.
It was unfortunate that the day Jinping visited India, the troop of Chinese People's Liberation Army made incursion into Chumar in Ladakh sector of Jammu and Kashmir in India territory. Despite this provocation the two leaders remained committed to strengthening the relationship between the two neighbouring countries.
At the time when Chinese president was in India, more than 300 Chinese troops were inside Chumar and nearly 40 inside Demchuk in Indian Territory. Despite being head of Chinese’s defence forces president Xi Jinping might not be aware of these minor incursion, but his troops must be aware its President visit to India.   This time not only troops but Chinese civilians too were staring at us.  Obviously China is trying to test India’s new government with its double standard.
It is matter of satisfaction that it is getting proper reply from our side. We are happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had categorically conveyed to Chinese leader that development can not be expected without peace and tranquillity along the border.
It is for the first time that an India prime minister so categorically raised the issued of activities along border with Chinese leader.
Earlier only statements were issued for the formality. With full hospitality, PM Modi made Chinese leader fully aware of India’ concern.
Nine year ago both the countries had agreed to a mechanism that border skirmish did not led to a war and special representatives had been appointed for the purpose. But the recent activities along the border of Ladakh show that Chinese have forgotten the agreement.
Modi also raised the issue of pin up visa and disturbance on the river Barhamputra.
In fact border dispute between the two countries is the major hitch in the relation between the two countries. Despite several round of talks since 1990 actual line of control could not be demarcated yet. When Modi raised the issue Xi Jinping later too promised to resolved the issue at earliest.
We must know that today bilateral ties are not only strategic one but it is done on economic interest too.
China will invest $20 billion in India. During summit both the countries also signed 12 agreements including on five years economic and trade development plan and new route from Nathula to Kailash Mansarovar. This will also be usable during rains.
An agreement on audio visual co-production, two documents on railways, another document on work plan for drug administration and an MoU on culture were exchanged between the two countries.
An MoU on peaceful use of outer space and a twinning agreement between Shanghai and Mumbai were also signed.
Japan had promised to invest $33 billion in India during Modi visit to that country. It was expected that China will invest more ion India but it promised to invest only $ 20 billion in five years.
It is also interesting that while China is looking for its interest in Indian sea India is looking its interest in South China Sea.
Interestingly at time when china signed an agreement on sea project in Sri Lanka, Indian President Pranab Mukharjee signed an agreement with Vietnam for oil exploration South China Sea.
Jinping postponed his visit to Pakistan, he had to go there too. It was also the subject of discussion. India should not forget that the very strong relationship between China and Pakistan.  Overall Jinping's visit to India was successful.
After the visit of  Chinese leader, the Prime Minister Modi has made his mark in the international diplomatic arena. Prime Minister Modi is making his place in world diplomacy. After his visit to Nepal, Bhutan Japan and Brazil and forthcoming visit to US, Narnerda Modi is going to become a world leader.
