UPA Government’s Anti-Hindu face re-surfaces again on Ram Setu issue

- Anil Narendra

It is unfortunate that the UPA Government of Manmaohan Singh has not clarified its stand on the Ram Setu issue, which touches the sentiments of millions of Hindus. Refusing to put forward its views on the Ram Setu issue, the Union Government appealed to the Supreme Court to give direction in the matter. In view of the Union Government not submitting its stand, the Supreme Court has decided to finally hear the matter in August. The Court had asked the Government to file its reply in this matter, while hearing a petition filed by the Janata Party Chairman, Dr. Subramaniam Swami, but with choosing not to reply in the matter, the Government had made it clear that it does not want to involve itself in this burning matter, that is linked to the sentiments of millions of Hindus. The Additional Solicitor General, Haren Rawal submitted before the Bench of the Supreme Court that the Government has considered the matter in details and decided not to put forward its views. He said that the Government stands firm on the reply filed in the Court in 2008, which said that it respects all religions, but it must not comment on the matter of religious faith. The Bench is hearing the petition filed on behalf of Janata Party Chief Dr. Subramaniam Swami, which had demanded the Ram Setu to be declared a mythological heritage. The apex Court had already given two weeks' time to the Government on this matter, but the Centre has clarified that it doesn't want to comment on the matter and has left the decision on the Court. On this, the apex Court said that if the Government is not interested in filing an affidavit, then it would move towards the process of arguments.

It is unfortunate that the UPA Government dares to ignore the sentiments of millions of Hindus. Hindus believe that this bridge was constructed by Hanuman to facilitate Lord Rama to cross over to Lanka. Even today, this bridge is clearly visible. A sad aspect of the matter is that no community of any other religion has objection in declaring the Ram Setu as a national heritage. Even millions of Muslims, Sikhs, Christians have also supported this view. The Ramayan is respected by all the faiths equally. The only opposition to it is from the DMK. These descendants of the Ravana want to demolish this ancient bridge and construct a sea lane. The intention behind such move is clear. It is all the more sad that the BJP, which claims itself the Hindu Party, has also not openly supported the proposal of Dr. Swamy in view of vote bank politics. Vishwa Hindu Parishad has supported this move of Dr Swamy. Acting Chairman of the BHP, Praveen Bhai Togadia has said that by not submitting an affidavit for winding up the Setu Samudram project, the Government has once again displayed its anti-Hindu stance. Every one has his or her own beliefs and no body can demolish this bridge constructed by Hanumanji. Jai Shri Hanuman, Jai Shri Ram.
