Presidential elections in the US are due in November this year. There is a neck and neck fight between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. It’s difficult to predict who wins this equal going game. Meanwhile President Barak Obama is at the end of his term. As such his recent Asia visit was perhaps his last visit to this region. But the most powerful nation as well as the most powerful President had to face such an insult which didn’t occur within his two entire terms. It began from China. Obama visited China to attend the G-20 summit at Hongshu. When Obama’s plane Airforce One landed, there was no arrangement of any big staircase as is usually used and he had to de-board from the lower small staircase instead of in front of the plane. There is a red carpet laid down for Head’s of state on the tarmac, which too was not there. Violation of protocol by China was a topic of criticism in the US media. Laud mouthed Donald Trump presidential candidate even said that had he been there instead of Obama, he would have returned back from there. After China stopover, Obama had to reach Laos to attend a regional conference visiting some more nations. Besides other nations, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte too had to attend the conference. As it is usual in such conferences, heads of the nations hold formal meetings. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met with Obama. During the conference, Rodrigo Duterte openly used abusive words for Obama and even used a vulgar abuse for him. As such the meeting was canceled. We are surprised that Duterte is a veteran politician. He has been the president of Philippines for five terms. He is expected to show the diplomatic maturity. But he lost his temper. He used abusive words for Obama because he had raised the question of human rights in Philippines. 2500 persons have been killed during the present term of Duterte. All this was done in the name of war against drugs. When UN Secretary General Won Ki Moon visited Philippines few days, Duterte refused to meet him as he too had raised the issue of human rights. With his a single sentence Duterte not only angered Obama and the US, but also shot himself in his foot. It is sad that President Barak Obama is being humiliated both at home and abroad during the last months of his term.
