Pink: An offbeat movie

On Saturday evening I watched the film Pink. In 2012, Nirbhaya case in Delhi had shocked the whole world. Then the law changed for women. But did thinking of society change? What about double standards about girls? These issues have been beautifully shown in the movie. Shujit Kumar, who has made films like Vicky Donor, Madras Café and Piku is one of Bollywood's top film makers. He  is the co-producer of this film. A keen attempt has been made to give an effective message to male dominated society and who have totally different kind of thinking for women through this film. Many questions have been raised in the film which measure men and women on different scales. For example, wearing western clothes,  girls laughing and reaching out to a man in friendly fashion, drinking alcohol etc., do these things indicate that girls are readily available? Are social rules different for girls and boys? Why men do not understand that every woman or girl has right to say 'No', that 'No ' should be respected and is “Final”.

Whether it be a sex worker, wife, or normal working girl. Pink also underlines beautifully how girls of Northeast are culturally treated slightly differently in other parts of India. In pink we can find some semblance of Damini, but only a little. The main thrust of the film is to show the social situation and conditions of working  girls in cities and the films main attraction is court drama, where Amitabh Bachchan has played one of the best roles of his life as a lawyer Deepak Sehgal. His questions and lessons creates pin drop silence in the hall, and are forced to think about  many questions after film. The film is based on three girls Minal Arora (Taapsi Pannu), Falak (Kirti Kulhari) and Andrea (Andrea) who unfortunately are stuck in a legal tangle. The directorial skill shows that finally what happened after the party so as the case reached the court.

Amitabh initially speaks very slowly, like a tired old man.Gradually his voice becomes louder in the film same as his old voice. Piyush Mishra has also played role of a lawyer who raises many questions during cross-examination of questions on women's character. Taapsi Pannu also played an influencing role. During the debate her style, dialogue delivery, face expression during grilling in court room are incredible. Ali Kirti acted amazingly in role of Falak Ali. Andrea has played her role well. In role of Deepak, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan again proved that why he is called a legend. If you want to watch a good movie, different from other action, thriller, hot, comedy movies, then go and see pink. Believe me that you would not get up easily after the film ends. You will  say after seeing the film that it was important to see it. One more suggestion. I think that if any movie gives a social message, it is pink. The tax of this film should be waived so that more and more people see it and mindset of the society changes.
