Karunanidhi’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam suffered a total washout in the recent elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Of the 234 seats in the Assembly, his party could get just 31 seats while Jayalalitha’s AIADMK got huge 200 seats. With his defeat, I am particularly happy because this is the fate that should befall those abusing Lord Rama. He is the same person who had said at a Press Conference that Lord Rama was an imaginary figure and also that the Ramayana had no basis. And from which engineering college did Lord Rama get his degree? These very remarks the Ravana of this era were made on the Setu controversy. Some of the stanzas of the Ramayana come to my mind on this issue.
`राम विमुख अस हाल तुम्हारा। रहा कोई न कुल रोबन हारा'
Meaning that “Not giving due respect to Lord Rama has brought you to this pass. And due to this you have reached a stage where even in your family there is no one left even to cry for you.”
The people have done what is written in one part of the Ramayana.
“जाको प्रिय न राम वैदेही। तजिये ताहि कोटि काति वैरी सम।। यद्यपि परम स्नेही”
Meaning that“Anyone who does not respect Rama Sita, he should be totally ignored, however dear he might be to you.”
When Karunanidhi and his stooge T R Baalu suggested that Ram Setu should be destroyed, their downfall started that very moment.
“जो अपराध भगत कर करहीं, राम रोष पावक सो जरहीं”
Meaning that, “Anyone who demeans devotees, he gets burnt in the fire of anger of Lord Rama, that he invited because of his utterances. Lord Rama does not spare anyone who insults his devotees.”
Ram Setu was built not by Rama, but by his ardent devotee Lord Hanuman and his army of followers. And the idea of destroying the Setu given by Karunanidhi was an insult to the devotees of Lord Rama. Devotee of Lord Rama, Lord Ram the Protector of Devotees could never tolerate all this. That is why in Ramcharitramanas, Saint Tulsidas said:
“जाको प्रभु दारुण दुख दीन्हा, ताकि मति पहिले हर लीन्हा”
Meaning that “anyone who troubles the Almighty will have to pay for it by inviting misery upon himself. And whomsoever the Lord wishes to punish, he takes control of his mind first.”
And that is what has happened to Karunanidhi who is so unwell that one cannot say how he will be affected by the defeat at the hustings. His daughter Kanimozhi might go to jail any time. A Raja is already in jail. One of his wives, Dayalu Ammal might also get into trouble. T R Baalu is out and it is difficult to say whether he will get power again. In all, the whole family is scattered.
After the humiliating defeat of Karunanidhi, what his attitude will be towards the Manmohan Singh government could cause concern for the Central Government, because he can withdraw his ministers from the government, but the Congress Party should not be too worried by this. The shortfall in case of DMK MPs pulling out of the government can be met and the Congress Party should not be bothered by this.
In the 2G spectrum scam, the government should be open about investigating Karunanidhi and company without any fear or pressure.The supporter of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassin, the LTTE, Karunanidhi, deserved this fate.
