Rawana descendents pressurize Union Government to reiterate its resolve to demolish Ram Setu

Anil Narendra
It is sad that the UPA Government of Manmohan Singh has reiterated its resolve to demolish the Lord Rama-constructed Ram Setu, a symbol of faith of crores of Indians. The Union Government has stated before the Supreme Court of India that after spending a huge amount of 8.29 billion rupees, this project (Setu Samudram Project) cannot be abondoned. Declaring the Setu Samudram as an economically and environmentally viable project, the Union Government has rejected the recommendations made by the Pachauri Committee appointed under the chairmanship of renowned environmentalist, RK Pachauri. In an affidavit filed in the apex Court, the Shipping Ministry has said that the Central Government has cleared the project on the basis of studies carried out at a very high level. The Project has also been approved by the Ministry of Environment. The apex body on environment, NEERI, has also declared the project economically and ecologically viable. The affidavit says that the Pachauri Committee, has, in its report clearly rejected the alternative route along with the Setu Samudram Project. The Committee had said that the project is not viable economically and environmentally. Shri Anant Kishore, a Deputy Secretary in the Ministry, has also said in the affidavit that the committee of eminent persons appointed by the Centre in 2007 had approved the project. The Committee was of the view that the Project was very important in view of its strategic sea lane control and economic profitability. It may be mentioned that the Central Government has appealed to the Supreme Court to dispose of petitions related to the Ram Setu issue. A number of petitions were filed in the Supreme Court against the ambitious Setu Samudram Project of the Government. Under the Project, construction of a short sea lane around the Southern part of the country by dismantling the mythological Ram Setu is envisaged. It may also be mentioned that this project is the brain child of DMK leaders and it was prepared with the sole object of earning money. All the companies related to the Project have been incorporated with the object of earning crores of rupees by DMK leaders and their relatives. A sea lane is proposed to be constructed under the project in the sea measuring 167 Km long, 30 metre wide and 12 metre deep navigational route. This wonder bridge constructed by Lord Rama and Shri Hanuman ji should have been considered as a national heritage. Such things connected with the faith of people cannot be measured in terms of money. Can we demolish Taj Mahal or Qutub Minar just for the sake of money? Crores of Indians consider that this Ram Setu was constructed by Lord Rama’s  monkey army to reach the capital of Ravana. Contrary to the earlier DMK Government of Rawana descendents, the Government of Ms Jayalalita is also of the view that the Central Government should completely reject the Ram Setu Project and declare it as a national monument. But, now under pressure from the DMK, the Central Government appears to be determined to demolish the Ram Setu. We want to warn the UPA Government that it is playing with fire. The Government and its partners are too weak to confront Shri Rama. Billions of devotees of Rama are opposing it. It is very sad that the so-called secular (anti-Hindus) Government has also said in the affidavit that the Ram Setu is not an important part of the Hindu religion. If Lord Rama, Shri Hanuman ji, Lanka war, are taken away from the Hindu religion, then what is left in the Hindu Dharma? Hindus, to whichever section they may belong, would firmly oppose this move of the Government and would continue to oppose it. Let’s see how this Government, which is bent upon appeasing various communities, outweighs the Hindu sentiments? Jai Shri Ram!
