Jharkhand fiasco result of Gadkari’s undiscerning and opportunist policies

अनिल नरेन्द्र
The sole objective of alliance between BJP and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, JMM was just power grabbing and the deal between the two without any principle and policy was destined to end like this. There was wrangling going on between BJP and JMM for last several days. JMM leader and Deputy Chief Minister in the Munda Government, Hemant Soren has given a number of reasons for withdrawing support from the Government. But, in fact the only and the most important issue was about power-sharing. Soren says that it was agreed at the time of forming the alliance that both the parties would lead the Government in turn. Arjun Munda became Chief Minister with the support of JMM in September 2010 and now it was the turn of Soren to be the CM, but BJP did not agree. It refused to accept that any such deal of ruling for 28 months by each was agreed upon between the two parties. In the political atmosphere in the country considered to be in favour of the BJP,  if its Government falls in two States or is on the verge of falling, it would definitely be indicative of its bad days to come. Munda Government has already fallen and in Karnataka, the Shettar Government is highly instable, which indicates the ill fate of the Party as a national party in the State. It may be mentioned that the BJP has lost Himachal Pradesh a few days back. The newly elected BJP President, Nitin Gadakari had decided to form the Government in Jharkhand in alliance with ‘the opportunist, untrustworthy and power hungry’ JMM without taking into confidence senior party leaders including LK Advani. Shri Advani didn’t even attend the oath taking ceremony, as he knew that the Government was sure to collapse any time. The recent incidents have proved Shri Advani right and he has emerged as a BJP well-wisher far-sighted leader, whereas Shri Gadakari has been seen as an undiscerning and inexperienced leader greedy for money, who in the haste to just improve his profile, ignored the prevailing equations. This incident should have been viewed as an adverse comment on the extension of his tenure as the President of the Party, but as per the latest information, it has almost been decided to grant him another tenure. May God save the Bhartiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh. Meanwhile, the Congress is treading very carefully in Jharkhand. The Congress is cautiously negotiating with the JMM for forming an alternative Government in the State. In order to seek important responsibility in the new Government, it has put its claim on the Chief Ministership. In case it fails to get this post, it could at least get ministries of its choice in the newly formed Government. Shakeel Ahmed, General Secretary in charge Jharkhand has explained that it can stake its claim to this post, as it has 6 more MLAs in comparison to the JMM of Soren (18) with its own 13 MLAs, and 5 from RJD and 6 from ASU or has their support. It also says that in case JMM does not accept Congress’s proposal and does not give up its insistence for the post of the Chief Minister, then the State may head for mid-term elections, because both the RJD and ASU would not accept Shibu Soren or Hemant Soren as the Chief Minister and if elections at this stage will not be beneficial to JMM and the BJP would stand benefitted in that situation. In fact, the Congress is well aware that it is the fourth party in the state in party-wise ranking in the State with 20% MLA (13) out of total membership of 81 MLAs and its claim for the post of Chief Minister is not justified. Under such circumstances, it appears that the Congress is applying pressure tactics to secure creamy ministries in the new Government. We don’t think that a Government formed by manipulation on the basis of present numbers would last long. It is more likely that Legislative Assembly would be dissolved and President rule would be imposed in the State.
